Paula has written to us to tell us that she has trasferred 1260€ in our bank account to help us pay our debt to the veterinary. Many thanks to AFE for their help because we badly need to pay that debt so that the dogs of La Pontiga can keep receiveing veterinary care.

Floppy, Joy, Lobita, Boogy, Pancho, Lola... Paula Same­link ( 23) uit Dinxperlo zapt door de foto’s die ze in het Spaanse hondenasiel La Pontiga heeft gemaakt. Bij iedere hond noemt ze een naam. En meestal iets erbij als ‘die is zo lief’, ‘die is heel verlegen’ of ‘die is erg ziek’.
Samelink heeft haar hart verpand aan de 250 honden die wor­den opgevangen in het asiel. Maar de omstandigheden zijn bar voor de die­ren. „Het is er nu ijskoud. Kouder dan in Nederland. Het asiel is ge­bouwd in een dal, de hokken staan tegen de bergwand. Daar­door loopt het water de hokken in. De honden hebben daardoor geen droge plek in het hok.”
De hokken zelf bieden weinig comfort aan de dieren, maar dat ze een hok hebben is al heel wat.
Aanvankelijk was La Pontiga niet meer dan een lap grond met een hek eromheen waarin een paar honden werden opgevangen. Dat werden er snel meer.
„Een ander asiel moest sluiten. Als Blanca, de eigenares van La Ponti­ga, de honden niet wilde opvan­gen, zouden ze een spuitje krijgen. Blanca wilde de dieren redden en toen kwam er een vrachtwagen met 180 honden naar haar asiel. Er waren geen hokken, er stond alleen een hek om het terrein.” De gevolgen waren dramatisch. De honden lie­pen los over het terrein, pasgebo­ren jongen werden door de teefjes opgegeten en de honden vochten.
„Blanca vroeg om hulp in de om­geving, maar daardoor kreeg ze nog meer honden. En er meldden zich een paar vrijwilligers.”
Met hen werden hokken gebouwd van beddenbodems, gaas en aller­lei ander materiaal dat bruikbaar was. De hokken zijn met ijzer­draad in elkaar geknutseld. „ Die eerste maanden heeft Blanca in een tuinhuisje tussen de honden geslapen. Daarna was het vechten, overleven. Ze krijgt etensresten uit een restaurant, maar daarvan wor­den de honden dik en ziek. Het is erg ongezond. Er is een schuld bij de dierenarts van duizenden eu­ro’s.”
Via een vriendin hoorde Samelink van het asiel. „ Ze liet me foto’s zien en die maakten veel indruk op me. Dieren zijn mijn passie, van vroeger af. Dieren laten je niet in de steek. Ik wil geen kinderen, maar dieren.”
Samelink begon de stichting Ani­mal Friends Europe voor de die­ren in La Pontiga. Mensen kunnen geld geven voor voer, medische zorg of een hond op afstand adop­teren. In drie maanden zamelde ze 2.000 euro in en het eerste trans­port met onder meer dekens zit er­op. In juni gaat Samelink met tien vrijwilligers naar het asiel om de hokken op te knappen en een riool aan te leggen. „ Dat is er nu niet, of het ligt niet goed. Daar­door stinkt het er vreselijk en loop je steeds door de hondenpoep.”
Het klinkt als een uitzichtloze toe­stand. Heeft het wel zin? „Wat moet je anders? We kunnen niet anders dan doorgaan. Als je de honden ziet, denk je twee dingen.
Aan de ene kant ‘ wat zielig, je moet een warm mandje hebben’, maar ook zie je in hun ogen dat ze gelukkig zijn. Dat komt doordat ze de liefde voelen van de mensen die in het asiel werken.”
In november is Samelink voor het eerst zelf in het asiel geweest. „ Ik wist niet waar ik kijken moest. Ik zag zoveel ellende. Ik heb gehuild als een gek.”
Volgens Samelink hebben de erbar­melijke omstandigheden van som­mige honden in Spanje te maken met de mentaliteit in het land. „Er is heel veel dierenmishandeling.
Als iemand ervoor wordt aange­houden is het maar de vraag of er een rechtszaak van komt en dan nog is de straf niet meer dan een boete. En daarna mag je gewoon weer een dier houden.”
Het zijn die misstanden die haar en Blanca drijven. „Honden wor­den in Spanje opgeknoopt, vergif­tigd of achter een auto gebonden waarna er heel hard gereden wordt. En er zijn veel zwerfdie­ren.” De dieren die geluk hebben worden aan het hek bij La Pontiga geknoopt. „ Soms worden pups over het hek gegooid.”
Subsidie is er niet voor La Pontiga. „Dat krijgen alleen dodingssta­tions. En dat wil Blanca niet. Die­ren krijgen van haar niet snel een spuitje, alleen als ze heel veel pijn hebben. Toen ze een kat kreeg die in het oog was geschoten en daar­na ook nog was aangereden, zei de dierenarts dat ze hem beter kon la­ten inslapen. Dat is niet gebeurd.
Ze heeft het dier veel pijnstillers gegeven en het is nu weer opge­fleurd. Pancho heeft een verlamd achterlichaam. Elke dag verzorgt Blanca zijn wonden en brengt ze een drain in zijn plasbuis, wat no­dig is voor zijn nierproblemen.
Daarna traint ze met hem: ze houdt zijn achterpoten vast en hij loopt met zijn voorpoten. Ik heb zoveel respect voor haar.”

De las donaciones recibidas en diciembre pasado, había quedado pendiente un gran pallet que ha llegado hace unos días y ya está en La Pontiga, donde las mantas, toallas, pienso, etc, hacían mucha falta y los perrinos agradecen.

Estas son las fotos cuando se recogieron las cajas, la calidad de las fotos es malísima porque era de noche y se sacaron con un teléfono móvil. Este sábado se harán más fotos para que se pueda ver mejor.

When the last donations were sent last december, a big pallet was left behind by mistake and it has only arrived a few days ago. All the stuff has already been brought to the shelter where the blankets, towels, food, etc, were badly needed and where the dogs are already enjoying them.

These are the pictures that were taken when the stuff was collected at the unloading point. The pictures quality is very bad because it was night time and we used a mobile phone. Next saturday we will take more and better pictures.

Wies and i are trying to plan a transport with food,blacket,medical supplies.
We hope that we can transport it before the end of November.
I think you will reseve 7 pallets with al kind of supplies.

Now we are trying to rais money for the animals.
We are sending emails to al the people we know, in the hope that they give us money for the animals.
Also we have some stores in The hague who have a donation jar.
One of them was already full and the amound was almost 50 euro's.
The second one wil be full soon!

Wies y yo estamos tratando de planear un transporte con comida, mantas y medicamentos. Esperamos poder hacerlo antes de finales de noviembre. Creo que podéis reservar espacio para siete pallets de todo tipo de suministros.

Ahora estamos intentando recaudar dinero para los animales. Estamos enviando emails a toda la gente que conocemos, con la esperanza de que nos den dinero para los animales. También tenemos algunos establecimientos con huchas para donativos. Uno de ellos ya se ha llenado y la cantidad recaudada era de casi 50 euros.

¡Y el segundo pronto estará lleno!

El motivo por el que hemos decidido renunciar a la ayuda de esta asociación no es otro que los continuos malos entendidos que se han sucedido desde el pasado mes de octubre y que hacen inviable una cooperación coherente en modo alguno.

En principio la página www.lapontiga.nl se creó para ayudar a los perros de la Pontiga. En este momento, la información que aparece en ella es errónea. Ante la imposibilidad de aclarar los errores en la mencionada página porque ya no disponemos de permisos para acceder a ella, lo hacemos aquí:

1-Como es bien sabido de todas las personas que trabajan y cooperan por el bien de los perros y gatos del albergue, no recibimos, hemos recibido ni tenemos perspectiva alguna de ir a recibir ninguna ayuda económica del ayuntamiento de Oviedo ni de ninguna otra entidad pública.

2-Nuestros ingresos mensuales procedentes de las cuotas de los padrinos de los perros en España (y dos madrinas en Francia) no cubren la totalidad de los gastos derivados del mantenimiento del albergue.

3-El resto de las necesidades del mismo se cubren con la realización de eventos (stands en San Mateo y la Ascensión, cena benéfica anual, venta de lotería, etc) que complementan escasamente los ingresos mensuales. También contamos con aportaciones de los voluntarios, muchas veces por encima de sus posibilidades reales ya que, el contacto directo con los perros les hace estar más sensibles en cuanto a sus muchas y apremiantes necesidades.

4-Las donaciones de pienso procedentes de Holanda y las aportaciones económicas de los padrinos de ese país contribuyen también complementando los ingresos conseguidos en España.

Todo lo anterior no es suficiente para sufragar todos los meses los aproximadamente 3000Kg de pienso que los perros consumen al mes y los aproximadamente 400Kg de pienso que consumen los gatos al mes. Además hay que pagar alquiler de finca, gasolina para el generador, e infinidad de gastos adicionales.

A todo esto se debe sumar la atención veterinaria. En este momento nuestra deuda en el veterinario es de más de 16.000€.

Por todo lo anterior, queremos dejar claro que los perros del albergue están bien (como podéis ver en sus posts que tratamos de actualizar con la mayor frecuencia posible) porque ellos no saben lo que es el dinero. No saben de dónde sale el pienso. No entienden que el suelo que pisan cuesta dinero. Son felices y confían en nosotras, pero nuestra angustia por conseguir comida para ellos mes tras mes, año tras año, es continua y muy intensa. Los que nos conocen lo saben bien.

En definitiva, como decíamos al principio, por diferencias irreconciliables, hemos pedido a esta organización que retire de internet la página www.lapontiga.nl, inicialmente creada en base a una relación de confianza para ayudar a los perros de la Pontiga (algo que es evidente con sólo ver el nombre de la mencionada página) y cuyo objetivo inicial está ahora siendo desvirtuado.

Desgraciadamente la realidad es que no podemos seguir aceptando la ayuda de esta organización porque la cooperación con ellos resulta tortuosa e impracticable, pero sí que continuamos necesitando y aceptando la ayuda de todos aquellos, de España, de Holanda, o de donde sea, cuyo corazón permanezca junto al de Canela, Leo, Yola, Katya, Nissy, Bugui, y todos y cada uno de los perros y gatos de La Pontiga.

Adicionalmente, aprovechamos para explicar que,como sabéis los que nos conocéis, desde hace mucho tiempo necesitamos otra ubicación para el albergue y llevamos años tratando de conseguir ayuda en ese sentido. Recientemente llegaron muy buenas noticias y confiamos en haber conseguido finalmente la donación de una finca en la que poder construir un nuevo albergue. Nuestro proyecto era tener unas mejores instalaciones en las que albergar tanto a los perros como a los gatos y también disponer de un alojamiento para aquella persona o personas dispuestas a dedicar toda su atención al cuidado de todos ellos, 24 horas al día, 7 días a la semana.

Desgraciadamente, la semana pasada todos nuestros sueños se volvieron a ir al traste y tendremos que seguir luchando y empezar de nuevo nuestras gestiones para conseguir un sitio mejor para nuestros perros y gatos.

There is no other reason for us to have decided to refuse the help of this organization than the continuous missunderstandings that have been ocurring since last October and which make any kind of consistent cooperation impossible.

At first the web page www.lapontiga.nl was created to help the dogs of La Pontiga. The info that appears at the momment in this page is not right. As it is impossible for us to clarify the mistakes in the above web page as we do not have the password to access to it anymore, we will do it here:

1. As it is well known by all of you who work and cooperate to help the dogs and cats of the shelter, we do not receive, have received or have any perspective of receiving any kind of economical help from Oviedo City Hall or from any other public entity.

2. Our monthly income derived from the donations of the dog`s Spanish fosterparents (and two French foster parents) is not enough to pay the total expenses of the shelter.

3-The rest of needs of the shelter are covered by organizing several events (shop during San Mateo and Ascension "Fiestas", annual benefical dinner, lottery sales, etc) which poorly complement our monthly income. We can also count on the volunteers donations, which are mostly over their economical posibilities due to the fact that their direct contact with the dogs makes them more sensitive to their many and urgent needs.

4. The food donations and the economical donations from the foster parents in Hollland also contribute to complement the overall income.

All the above is not enough to cover every month the aprox. 3000Kg food that the dogs eat monthly and the aprox. 400Kg food that the cats eat monthly. We also have to pay the field rent, petrol for the generator, and an infinity of other additional expenses.

We must add the veterinary expenses to all the above. We currently ow the veterinary more than 16.000€.

For all the above, we want to make it very clear that the dogs at the shelter are ok (as you can see in their post that we try to update as frequently as possible) because they do not know what money is. They do not know where their food comes from. They do not understand that the soil they stand on costs money. They are happy and they trust us, but our agony to struggle to get food for them one month after another, one year after another, is continuous and very intense. Those who know us know it well.

To finish, as we were saying at the beginning, due to irreconcilable differences, we have asked this Organization to withdraw from internet the web page www.lapontiga.nl, initially created, based on a trust relationship, to help the dogs at la Pontiga (something which is self-evident by just looking at the web page`s name), and which initial target in now being distorted.

Unfortunately, the truth is that we can not keep accepting this Organization`s help because cooperating with them is tortuous and impracticable but we do keep needing and accepting the help of any of you, from Spain, Holland or where ever, whose heart still stands beside the hearts of Canela, Leo, Yola, Katya, Nissy, Bugui, and every one of the dogs and cats of La Pontiga.

Additionaly we will take the chance to explain that, as all of you who know us well know, we need a new place for the shelter and have been trying to get help in this sense for many years. We recently received very good news and trusted that we had finally achieved a field donation where we could build a new shelter. Our project was to have better facilities both for the dogs and for the cats and also have a place where any person or persons willing to devote all their time to their attention, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, could stay overnight.

Unfortunately, last week all our dreams were dashed and we will now have to keep struggling and start all our negotiations once again to get a better place for our dogs and cats.

Dat we besloten hebben om de hulp van deze organisatie te beëindigen heeft geen andere reden dan de continue misverstanden die sinds oktober vorig jaar zijn ontstaan en het weigeren van enige vorm van consequente samenwerking.

Als eerste de webpagina www.lapontiga.nl werd opgericht om de honden van La Pontiga te helpen. De info die op dit moment op die site wordt weergegeven is niet goed.
Voor ons is het onmogelijk om de fouten in bovenstaande webpagina te veranderen daarr we niet het wachtwoord kennen om toegang te verkrijgen tot deze website.

Daarom zullen we het op deze manier verduidelijken:

1. Zoals algemeen bekend is bij jullie allen die werken en samenwerken om de honden en katten van het asiel te helpen: wij onvangen op geen enkele manier of welke vorm dan ook hulp van de gemeente Oviedo of van enige andere publieke instelling

2. Ons maandelijks inkomen verkregen uit donaties voor de honden z.a. Spaanse fosterbaasjes (en twee Franse fosterbaasjes) zijn niet voldoende om de totale kosten te betalen van het opvangcentrum.

3. De rest van de behoeften van de shelter worden gedekt door het organiseren van verschillende evenementen (verkoop goederen tijdens San Mateo en Hemelvaart "Fiestas", het jaarlijkse diner, loterij verkoop, enz.) dit zijn slechts aanvullingen op ons maandelijks inkomen. We kunnen ook rekenen op de donaties van de vrijwilligers, die meestal ver over hun economische mogelijkheden gaan, dit is te wijten aan het feit dat ze direct contact met de honden hebben en dit maakt ze meer gevoelig voor hun vele en dringende behoeften.

4. De voer donaties en de economische donaties van de fosterbaasjes uit Hollland dragen ook bij om de totale inkomsten aan te vullen.

Al het bovenstaande is niet genoeg om elke maand de ongeveer 3000 kg voedsel dat de honden eten en de +- 400kg voedsel dat de katten eten, te dekken. We hebben ook de huur van het veld, benzine voor de generator en een oneindig aantal andere bijkomende kosten te betalen.

De dierenarts kosten komen hier nog bovenop. We zijn op dit moment de dierenarts meer dan € 16.000 schuldig.

Voor al het bovenstaande, willen we heel duidelijk stellen dat de honden in het asiel oké zijn (zoals je kunt zien in de berichten van hen die wij proberen zo vaak mogelijk te updaten) omdat ze niet weten wat geld is. Ze weten niet waar hun voedsel vandaan komt. Zij begrijpen niet dat de grond waarop ze staan geld kost. Ze zijn blij en ze vertrouwen ons, maar onze pijn om te strijden om voedsel te krijgen voor hen maand na maand, jaar na jaar is continu en zeer intens. Degenen die ons goed kennen weten dit.

Om te eindigen, zoals we zeiden aan het begin, als gevolg van onoverbrugbare verschillen, hebben wij gevraagd aan deze organisatie zich terug te trekken van de webpagina www.lapontiga.nl, in eerste instantie gemaakt om de honden van La Pontiga te helpen, gebaseerd op een vertrouwensrelatie (dit kunt u zien door alleen al te kijken naar de naam van de webpagina) de aanvankelijke doelstelling wordt nu verstoord.


Helaas, de waarheid is dat we niet langer hulp van deze organisatie kunnen aanvaarden omdat de samenwerking met hen krom en onhaalbaar is. Maar we hebben hulp nodig, hulp uit Spanje, Nederland of waar dan ook, hulp van mensen wiens hart nog steeds naast het hart van Canela, Leo, Yola, Katya, Nissy, Bugui en elke andere hond en kat van La Pontiga staat.

Tot slot nemen we de kans waar om uit te leggen dat, zoals u allen die ons goed kennen, weten dat we een nieuwe plek voor de opvang nodig hebben, we hebben al jaren geprobeerd hulp te krijgen hiervoor . We hadden onlangs zeer goed nieuws ontvangen en we vertrouwden erop dat we eindelijk een veld gedoneerd kregen waar we een nieuw onderkomen op konden bouwen.

Ons project was om betere faciliteiten voor zowel de honden en de katten te maken en een plaats waar een persoon of personen konden verblijven en overnachten, zodat al hun tijd en aandacht naar de dieren kon gaan.

Helaas, vorige week werden al onze dromen de grond ingeslagen. We zullen nu moeten blijven strijden en al onze onderhandelingen weer opnieuw beginnen om een betere plek voor onze honden en katten te krijgen.
